Calhoun, GA, August 20th, 2021 — PTS Financial Services (PTS) is proud to announce the promotion of their General Counsel and Vice President of Financial Services, Charles Smitherman III, PhD to Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Legal Officer (CLO).
Smitherman will continue to work closely with Tony Farrell, Founder and CEO of PTS, on the Corporation’s overall strategy and execution. Smitherman will oversee PTS’ end-to-end administrative and operational functions, including implementation, support, customer service, infrastructure, and compliance. His emphasis will be on exploring and scaling innovative ideas across PTS’ divisions identifying emerging technologies, improving processes, and achieving operational efficiencies.
Charles’ work has been instrumental in PTS’ growth over his tenure here,” stated Tony Farrell, CEO. “I am thrilled to promote Charles as our new COO and CLO as I know this is a strategic move to help PTS achieve my vision of taking PTS from a “good” company to a “great” one. Smitherman received his Juris Doctor degree with a focus in corporate law, contract law, and international law from the University of Georgia School of Law. He earned his Master of Legal Research with Distinction and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford in England. Smitherman has published numerous academic publications including the book, “Transatlantic Merger Cases”(2007). Smitherman is also accredited as a Certified Franchise Executive by the International Franchise Association.
Smitherman served as the Editor in Chief for the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law and on the Editorial Board for the Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal. Smitherman worked as a Tutor in Law at the University College London Faculty of Law, assisted with examinations in law for the University of Oxford Faculty of Law, acted as a guest lecturer at law schools in the United States and Europe, and worked as a research assistant at the British Institute for International and Comparative Law and the University of Georgia. Smitherman has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 2002 and from 2006 to 2015 practiced corporate law and commercial litigation in Dalton, GA. Smitherman has been serving as PTS General Counsel since August 2014.
